ABOUT ABOUT

Set in Patty's Bar in Harlem in the 1940s, Take Me Back to Harlem sets the stage for an imagined conversation between Langson Hughes and his longstanding literary character, Jesse B. Semple. Take Me Back to Harlem brings Semple to life to plumb the depths of the human experience to the backdrop of Jazz and the Blues. In Patty's Bar, they cover topics from race to religion to politics to matters of the heart. The Journey's premiere secular piece, this play is an opportunity for audiences of all ages to engage Hughes from history to the present.
